Who is Jahnavi?

As wedding bells resounded in the Bachchan residence, Jahnavi Kapoor decided to seek out her own 15 minutes of fame — by claiming that dulha Abhishek had betrayed her after promises of marriage. In full media glare, she slit her wrists and now, is charged with attempt to suicide under Section 309 of IPC.

So, who is Jahnavi? A small-time model and dancer, Jahnavi shared screen space with Jr B in a promotional song for the film Dus. Also, she was once married to Kalbe Hussain, son of Kalbe Sadiq, the senior VP of the All India Muslim Personal Law Board.

Says Sadiq, "It was against our wishes that this marriage took place in 1997. But we accepted her in our family. However, her wayward ways soon emerged — she'd come home late at night, often drunk." Finally, he says, in 2000, Hussain divorced her and Jahnavi moved to Mumbai "as she was always running after glamour." What's more, she also has an eight-year-old son Ali who lives with his nani in Srinagar.

Meanwhile, when the song with Abhishek was being shot, Jahnavi was given a part. Says the choreographer Bosco, "I remember her well, although she wasn't a significant dancer. I'm sure whatever she's saying now is for publicity. Abhishek wouldn't even remember her."

Most of those who know Jahnavi seem to have no idea about her claim of an affair with Abhishek. But yes, they do know about her addictions. "She is a drug addict and a alcoholic," says Simran Dhawan, a fellow dancer.
