Default Tamil & Hindi News - PAYYA MUSIC REVIEW

Music Director : Yuvan Shankar Raja
Vocals : Haricharan, Tanvi, Benny Dayal, Rahul Nambiar, Saindhavi, Karthik, Sunitha Saradhy, Yuvan Shankar Raja.
Lyrics : Na.Muthukumar
Produced by Thiruppathi Brothers Film Media (of N.Lingusamy) along with N. Subash C. Bose, and directed by Lingusamy, this clean action-cum-entertainer stars Karthi (of ‘Paruthiveeran’ fame) and Tamannah (the hottest heroine around now) as the lead pair along with Milind Soman (a handsome hulk of a model) and Sonia Deepti in pivotal roles. The two lovers Karthi and Tamannah set out on a journey from Bengaluru to Mumbai and the story is all about their experiences on the way. The movie has been shot in Bengaluru, Mumbai and Hyderabad. Yuvan Shankar Raja, who is busy preparing for a huge concert tour to Dubai and Canada, is the music director for this movie. All the songs have been penned by Na.Muthukumar.

Thuli Thuli...
Vocals: Haricharan, Tanvi

A soft romantic solo with pleasant string accompaniment and sharp rhythms. Haricharan’s rendering is clean and crisp but his voice sounds slightly muffled. Tanvi is content with background humming. The second interlude without rhythms is soothing, could make a mark with smooth visuals.

Poongatre Poongatre...
Vocals: Benny Dayal

Another solo with a distinct ‘rock’ touch to it, it celebrates the entry of a lovely lady into the hero’s life. Dramatic guitars and keyboard sounds dominate in the interludes. Benny Dayal’s singing is spirited. Could hit the charts, even if the tune doesn’t seem original.

Adada Mazhaida...
Vocals: Rahul Nambiar, Saindhavi

The jaunty rhythms in this song make you want to go foot-tapping. The song itself seems to have a mild ‘Nalandhana’ hangover! Of the live drums used, one drum sound is so sharp – it could have been toned down a little. Good singing from both, especially Rahul. This song is supposed to have been shot at Athirapally waterfalls.

Suthudhe Suthudhe...
Vocals: Karthik, Sunitha Saradhy

The song of a young man too far gone in love! Karthik, bless his soul, adds a lot of verve and colour to this number with his very polished rendering. Sunitha’s role is confined to humming. Again the rhythm component is arresting. This song, with Sabeena Khan as the choreographer, was shot in an expensive set designed by art director Rajeevan and is supposed to be the highlight of the movie. Could be well liked for its different feel.

En Kadhal Solla...
Vocals: Yuvan Shankar Raja, Tanvi

This is a typical Yuvan number-full of pining and longing. Strong beats are prominent with strings and keyboard sounds taking a backseat. Tanvi’s role is minimal. Yuvan does strain in places and the phrase ‘poi solla theriyathadi’ has a funny inflection making you smile. His fans are sure to like this song.

Verdict:

Yuvan’s interesting experiments with rhythms continues in this album too. But at least three songs seem to have a little something of his earlier numbers. It may not create a flutter like ‘Sarvam’, but if the film is a neatly packed one, then some songs could have an extended ‘shelf life’.
